Map the data path

Think beyond the upload button. A service may receive the original file, extracted text, account details, billing information, device data, and usage events. Some data may be handled by infrastructure, payment, or AI-processing providers. The privacy notice should explain the relevant categories, purposes, sharing, retention, and available rights.

A statement that a file is not kept in persistent storage does not necessarily describe every related record. Account history, generated output, support messages, or operational logs may follow separate rules. Read the policy in context and ask the provider when a material point is unclear.

Prepare a safer working copy

For an early formatting or keyword test, the tool may not need your street address, personal phone number, personal email address, portfolio access tokens, references, signature, or an embedded photograph. Work from a duplicate and remove fields that are irrelevant to the requested analysis. Keep the original locally so redaction does not damage your application copy.

Also inspect hidden content. Comments, tracked changes, document properties, and old text can remain in editable files. Export a clean copy and open it before upload. Do not use fictional redaction marks that still leave underlying selectable text.

• Remove unnecessary address details and reference contact information.
• Accept only the file types the product documents.
• Use a unique password if an account is required.
• Avoid uploading confidential employer material or customer data.
• Keep sensitive content out of filenames and URL query parameters.

Check claims against the actual policy

Marketing shorthand is not a substitute for the privacy notice. Confirm the current policy date and the specific product surface you are using. A mobile app, public web checker, authenticated workspace, and payment flow can have different data paths.
